For years, Riva Begum and her husband, Yasin Gazi, struggled to support their family of five. Yasin worked as a mason and in a toy shop, where he learned toy-making. To invest in his own business, Riva took loans from several NGOs, but high-interest repayments and unsuccessful ventures pushed the family deeper into financial hardship.
A New Beginning
In 2020, Riva joined the Jeebika-3 project of Daffodil Foundation, marking a turning point for the family. Over five years, she received around BDT 220,000 in interest-free loans, along with access to healthcare, savings facilities, and training.
Riva received tailoring training, while financial support helped Yasin restart his toy business. The business gradually grew from a small operation into three thriving shops, making him a recognized local entrepreneur.
The family also strengthened their financial stability through combined savings and BDT 49,500 in Zakat support. Their children are now attending school—their daughter in Grade 3 and son in Grade 1.
“Jeebika gave us more than loans - it gave us a second chance to build our lives with dignity.”
Today, Riva and Yasin are living a more stable life. Their story demonstrates how access to opportunity, skills, and financial support can help families overcome hardship and build a more secure future.
